Our Power Fleet members share a love for the water and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow boaters. We are an active group that likes to socialize with fellow boaters and just have fun both on and off the water.

We are an active group that congregate around the love of sailing.  VBC Sailors enjoy events both on and off the water.

  • Sail Camp
    • Adventure Camp Program Description

      For ages:

      8 -18 years old (7 year old sailors with one year of SOS are eligible for Adventure Sailing)
      Morning Session (8:30 AM - Noon) – Ages 11+
      Afternoon Session (1:00 PM - 4:30 PM) – Ages 8-11

      The following will be covered in the Adventure Sailing Program:
      • Water safety
      • The ability to sail upwind.
      • Learn general sailing skills and seamanship.
      • Build confidence in sailing ability.
      • Introduction to the sport of sailing and understanding basic racing technique.

      Requirements:
      • Must be able to swim while wearing a life jacket.
      • Must pass a swim test
      • Must bring a USCG approved life jacket.  Life jackets must be worn near the waterfront and on boats at all times.  
      • Must have closed toed shoes.  Please note, shoes will consistent get wet at camp.  Please consider shoes that will stay on the child while they are swimming (e.g. water shoes)

      Build Your Sailing Skills Series

      (Available weeks 1-3 only, participants must be available to attend the entire series to register)
      3 Consecutive weeks of camp, building on the skills taught in the previous week(s). The end of the series will culminate with an intra club regatta.
      Morning Session (8:30 AM - Noon) – Ages 11+
      Afternoon Session (1:00 PM - 4:30 PM) – Ages 8-11

      The following will be covered in the Build Your Sailing Skills Series:
      • Water safety
      • The ability to sail upwind.
      • Learn general sailing skills and seamanship.
      • Build confidence in sailing ability.
      • Beginner tactics & boat speed
      • Potential to try various types of sailboats, especially for the morning session campers.
      • Introduction to the sport of sailing and understanding basic racing technique.

      SOS (Start Opti Sailing) Program Description:

      For ages:

      4-7 years old 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesdays & Thursdays

      Dates:

      6/11/24 & 6/13/24, 6/18/24 & 6/20/24, 6/25/24 & 6/27/24

      This course emphasizes learning proper skills through skill progression – teaching the basics and progressing with small building blocks until the skill is mastered. Sailors are motivated through these small successes and will be assured that the skills are taught properly. Teamwork is also encouraged in this course, as sailors start with two-three kids per boat, eventually graduating to sailing on their own in our Adventure Sailing program.

      The following will be covered in the S.O.S Program:
      • Terminology - boat parts, basic wind direction, rigging and derigging
      • Water Safety - clothing, water pollution, life jacket vs. PFD
      • Balance - where to sit and moving around the boat
      • Steering - straight, turning, holding the tiller and extension • Propulsion - sculling, paddling, using the sail
      • Stopping and going in the boat, capsizing, launching and docking, tacking and gibing
      Requirements:
      • Must be able to swim while wearing a life jacket. 
      • Must pass a swim test.
      • Must bring a USCG approved life jacket.  Life jackets must be worn near the waterfront and on boats at all times.

      Sail Camp Schedule 2024

      Schedule:

      Camp runs Monday - Thursday beginning June 10, 2024

      • Week 1 June 10 -13, 2024
      • Week 2 June 17- 21, 2024 Note: Wednesday 6/19/24 is canceled, due to the Cleveland Race Week Junior Regatta. Friday 6/21/24 will be the make-up date.
      • Week 3 June 24 - 27, 2024
      • Week 4 July 8 -11, 2024 Note: There is no sail camp the week of July 4th.
      • No Camp the week of July 15th, due to camp resources supporting I-LYA Junior Bay
      • Week 5 July 22 - 25, 2024

  • Junior Race Team
    • Junior Race Team is for junior sailors ages 8-18 years old with an interest in racing.
      The Junior Race Team practices on Monday evenings 4:30 PM - 8:00 PM and Fridays 8:30 AM - Noon.

          


      Requirements:

      • Must be able to swim while wearing a life jacket.
      • Must pass a swim test.
      • Must bring a USCG approved life jacket.  Life jackets must be worn near the waterfront and on boats at all times.  
      • Must have closed toed shoes.  Please note, shoes will consistent get wet at camp.  Please consider shoes that will stay on the child while they are swimming (e.g. water shoes)
      • Opti and Laser sailors are encouraged to provide their own boats and equipment, if possible
      • Must have 2 years of sail camp experience or equivalent, as deemed by the race team coach
      • Required to attend a minimum of 3 ILYA Travelers Series Regattas under the VBC burgee, to qualify for the ILYA Junior Bay Week Team

      Non-Member Fee: $375 per junior sailor

  • Swim Lessons


    • Water safety in paramount at VBC! Swim lessons are available to our youngest members at a reduced rate, taught by our certified lifeguard staff. Schedules will be posted at the beginning of summer and are available to members on a first come first serve basis. If additional space is available, it will be opened up to non-members too. Stay tuned for more information in June.

      Add the calendar for swim lessons, once populated closer to summer. Please indicate a schedule to sign up for swim lessons will be added in June for the Summer months. Note: This will be similar...the public side will mirror the private side, with swim lessons up charged for the public. Pricing and schedule will not be known until May.

      Please note: Someone from VBC will contact you within 48 hours. This is only a request, docks are assigned by the VBC management, based on capacity. Transient dockage is $1.75 per foot per night. NO PETS are allowed on shore, with the exception of official service animals. 30 amp service only is available, no splitters. Dual cords are permitted. Pedestals have been updated with ELCI breakers to protect personnel and limit current leakage into the waterway, not all boats are compatible.
