  • Commodore

    • Commodore David Loper

      David Loper, his wife Shea and daughter Drew live in Vermilion, Ohio. He is the 3rd generation to make Vermilion his home port. David grew up in Wilmington, Ohio, graduated from Wilmington High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business at Miami University. He spent his summers living in Vermilion attending the Vermilion Boat Club Sail Camp both as a camper and a counselor. In 2013, he restructured the John H. Backus Company, started by his grandfather in 1971. With a focus on excellent customer service, the company distributes automation components. Dave and Shea joined the Vermilion Boat Club in 2008 as junior members. Together with Drew, they enjoy cruising on their sailboat around Lake Erie.

    • Vice Commodore Liz Elden

      Liz's family made Vermilion their home port in 1969, just in time for the July 4th flood. Summers were spent cruising the lakes on a series of her dad's many powerboats. VBCSC made her a lifelong sailor and racer. A graduate of Vermilion High School, Liz received her BA in Economics from Smith College and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University. With a background in real estate development and business management, she is currently a Project Manager for Summation Partners. Residing in Vermilion, Liz is active in community projects. Her daughter, Clare, attends Denison University.

    • Rear Commodore Shari Kuhn


       

      While attending the 100th anniversary celebration at Vermilion Boat Club in July of 2013, Shari was introduced to Commodore Lewie Kuhn by P/C Roy Fiedler and the rest is history! In 2016 they got hitched at sunset on the beach of Crystal Cove where they call home when they are not traveling or cruising the Great Lakes on WHY NOT!! Shari & Lewie will be the first husband and wife duo to both serve as Commodores of Vermilion Boat Club. Together they share a blended family of five kids, a son in law, daughter in law, a fiancée, two significant others, grandsons Ripp & Finn and two grandpups. Shari studied at the KSU School of Fashion. Sales, management, finance, fashion, interior design/decorating, gemology and real estate are a few of her specialties. Currently she is Vice President at Kuhn Fabricating and works alongside Lewie in his 4th generation family business in Lorain. She previously served as a VBC Special Projects Trustee from 2016-2020. The Kuhn family has called VBC home since 1974. You will find The Kuhn’s at their boat all summer long at the Vermilion Boat Club docks. Stop by anytime for camaraderie and cheer…VBC is the place to be! .
